Blog entry #3

Welcome to my 3rd entry of my STOP CHILD LABOR blog. Last Friday I participated in grade 10 wide display fair , where we  showed our peers in the school about our social action(s) towards our social justice issue and our problem behind the social issue. In my perspective I believe that my SAP participation help bring much awareness to my problem. During the fair people ( students , staff ) went around and saw and listened to different presentations about different social issues. The outcome of my presentation was great because my people signed my petition for the Ministry of Affairs to take action. There were general to specific questions asked such as “ what can we do that can help eliminate  or reduce the problem” “ Is the problem just big in South Sudan or is it a big problem in other countries?” ,  “ what age group is affected the most?” My answer were specific and simple for the person to understand which made it easier for me to persuade them into help me with my social action towards child labour. What really worked is  that I had less text and more pictures inn my presentation , so the audience wouldn’t be bored and less intrigued. Also my tone was enthusiastic and steady , which made it easier for people to understand. What didn’t work was how I used  prezi instead of a display board. If I used a display board it would’ve brought attention from peers because of the colourful or bold display. Also all the information would have been all in place and if they wanted to read off the board because they might of never really understood my speaking. In my presentation I effectively presented the slideshow. I toke out information that would drag it on or was not as needed or important than others. This helped me on presenting information  that was crucial for their knowledge and for my persuasion in making them join my movement. The only thing I would have change who be making a display board instead. I believe that a display board is more eye catching than laptop screen with information on it. I would keep making visual aids to be put  around the school , to bring students attention to my social justice issue because students are the most powerful weapon for my social action. Also I would have made my presentation a bit more appealing to a broader audience instead of just stating facts or too much information.

Blog Entry #2

Welcome back to my "Stop Child Labour" blog.  This entry is going to be mainly about what actions I have done towards reducing or ending child labour in South Sudan. So far I have done what any typical social justice activist would've done. I have gone through my closet and easiest options to start off my journey. The best option of action I chose was to take advantage of the people around me. I asked my father if I could use his workplace as a way to get people more involved. His workplace is a school , so I informed the school on the  consequences and struggles children have to face each and every day due to child labor. Even though I am trying to get my own school involved , I believe it would be better if I could expand my social action into other schools too. I have gotten the students to be informed about my project and how they can help me. I suggested posters and my one or two assemblies to happen to help my pathway to my social action goal be easier and more efficient.   So far this action has had an outcome beyond my expectations.  I thought this wouldn't work out because this wasn't my own school. But it worked out greatly. Following this action would like to have my own school be a part of my social action. My second action was a simple yet a bit effective method. I printed out papers and made a few posters saying " STOP CHILD LABOUR NOW!" and some bigger papers pr posters have " STOP CHILD LABOUR NOW! FOR THE INNOCENT CHILDREN" and a website and contact information of many organizations that help towards it. I posted these messages around my neighborhood , specifically on street lights, public mail boxes and street name poles. I believe this is the best way to get the general public  attention. This will boost my chances of getting much more people involved and maybe city councilmen involved will eventually spread wider and more up the rakes of political power.  I have many more social actions coming along this social justice journey and more potential  outcomes to come hopefully.

Blog Entry #1

Welcome to my Social Justice Blog “E.C.L” which stands for “end child labor”. This blog surrounds the main idea of Child labor, specifically around South Sudan. You may be thinking, what is child labor. Child labor is the use of children in business or industry, especially when illegal or considered inhumane. I have chosen this specific topic for my blog because the passion I hold towards it. Knowing that there are children all over the world that are deprived of an education and wellness due to child labor and is heart breaking. My whole life I have been privileged with the fundamentals of freedom due to living in a democratic country. I have to appreciate the easy life I've been provided along with giving back in return. By doing so, I have the determination to end child labor. I believe every child should live a great life. I know I might not be able to end child labor completely, so I have started small. I have chosen a place in the world with the child labor characteristics, specifically a country. I have chosen South Sudan. South Sudan is one of the top countries dealing with child labor today. Many organizations such as free the children, stop child labor etc. help with the child labor issue. I would love to contribute to these causes and help end child labor. So far I have started to have a grasp on the general idea of change. I have searched and still am looking for ways to end child labor in South Sudan. I have provided a step plan for this "end child labor project "and a planner to keep check on my progress. What I have leaned so far includes different ways on creating change on this topic , specifically what I can do and what the community can do. Ways I can create change is, endorsing the project to my fellow community, persuading. My plan includes community involvement such as my own school and or across the peel district school and the general community. I can arrange assembles in the school , post pictures or photos all over the school , to help endorse my project to end child labor in South Sudan. The community involvement consists of community get togethers, information nights and activities or events to help with the cause. Being the JR VP for the Louise Arbour has given the knowledge with social justice issues and awareness and has made a step plan even easier to understand. So far I have done no significant work towards my social action. But I have many ideas and creative actions on the way to help end or minimize child labor in South Sudan .
